The Tanzanian capital Dar Essalem will host the African Energy Summit on January 27 and 28. This meeting will bring together African heads of state and government, private sector leaders, development partners and donors, experts, civil society organizations and actors from academia.
The objective is to mobilize and obtain the financial resources, partnerships and political commitment necessary to achieve “Mission 300” and consolidate the progress already made by African countries for universal electrification. The aim is to provide electricity for the benefit of 300 million people in Africa by 2030, knowing that nearly 600 million Africans do not have access to electricity, which represents 83% of the deficit. global energy.
At the initiative of the African Development Bank (AfDB), the World Bank (B), the African Union (EU) and the government of the United Republic of Tanzania, this historic energy summit will therefore attempt to accelerate the pace of electrification in Africa.
This is detailed in a press release from the ADB sent to our editorial staff. “Launched in April 2024, this initiative known as “Mission 300” will combine increased investments in infrastructure and comprehensive policy reforms across the entire electricity supply chain,” explains the same source.
The “Mission 300” initiative, in addition to accelerating the electrification of the continent by promoting the development of clean energies and economic growth, will enable job creation. This summit comes, it should be remembered, three months after the 9th edition of the African energy market held last October in Dar Essalel.
This market is a collaborative investment platform created by the AfDB as part of the New Deal for Energy in Africa. This platform was specifically designed to foster private investment in the energy sector using a tripartite model that brings together governments, the private sector and development partners.
