A major accident occurred on national road 166 near Elven (Morbihan) late in the afternoon on Wednesday January 15, 2025.
Fifteen vehicles involved
Around 5:30 p.m., Bison Futé reported a bodily accident with 15 vehicles involved on the RN 166, in the Ploërmel-Vannes direction, at PR 12 + 890.
“Around fifteen vehicles are involved,” confirms an officer from the Vannes Gendarmerie Company. The gendarme gives the first elements of the field:
A vehicle swerving is believed to be the cause of the accident. This will remain to be confirmed. There was a first collision, then a second, etc.
The officer puts forward a hypothesis concerning the secondary accident:
Failure to respect the safety distance could have worsened the situation. If vehicles are too close, there is not enough braking distance. This could explain the number of vehicles involved.

Around ten people supported
According to the gendarme, there would be no serious injuries at the 6:30 p.m. situation update. “Around ten people are examined by the firefighters,” he adds.
The firefighters, the emergency medical aid service (Samu), the departmental road safety squadron (EDSR) and the gendarmes of the community of brigades (COB) of Questembert are on the scene.
The closed 2×2 lane
For the emergency intervention, it was decided to temporarily close the RN 166. “A diversion has been put in place by the Interdepartmental Directorate of Western Roads (DIRO) until traffic can be restored,” indicates the gendarme.
Many firefighters are still on the scene.
