The son of the Princess of Norway was arrested on suspicion of rape

Marius Borg Hoiby, the son of Norway’s Crown Princess Mette-Marit, was arrested Tuesday evening on suspicion of rape. This is not the first time that the 27-year-old has been in trouble with the law.

Norwegian police announced Tuesday the arrest of the son of Crown Princess Mette-Marit of Norway on suspicion of rape. Born from a relationship prior to his mother’s marriage in 2001 to Haakon, the heir to the Norwegian throne, Marius Borg Hoiby, 27, was arrested Tuesday evening. He is suspected of having had “sexual intercourse with a person who was unconscious or otherwise incapable of resisting this act,” police said in a statement.

Marius Borg Hoiby had already been arrested in early August. He admitted to assaulting his girlfriend, in a statement made public Wednesday by Norwegian media NRK. He is accused of causing bodily harm and damage to a woman with whom he was in a relationship. She received medical treatment, but was not hospitalized, according to her lawyer.

That weekend, “something happened that should never have happened. I caused bodily harm and destroyed objects in an apartment under the influence of alcohol and cocaine after an argument,” he wrote to the public channel.

The young man says he suffers from “mental disorders” and has struggled “for a long time with drug addiction”, for which he has already been treated.
