What you need to know about Elise Stefanik, Donald Trump’s future ambassador to the United Nations, the “star of the Republican Party”

With his first appointments, Donald Trump immediately demonstrates the desire for a hard line

After graduating in 2006, she joined the George W. Bush administration, in the Domestic Policy Council and then in the White House Chief of Staff’s office. She contributed to the Republican Party’s program in 2012. Candidate for upstate New York in 2014, she won her constituency from the Democrats and at thirty became the youngest woman ever elected to Congress.

Initially critical of Donald Trump (“misogynist”, “demagogue”) during her first candidacy for the Republican nomination, Elise Stefanik has since transformed into a fierce supporter and feminine clone of her new mentor, adopting the same aggressiveness. His defense of Donald Trump, during the first impeachment proceedings, in 2019, exploded his popularity with the President’s supporters. He then rewards her with the title of “star of the Republican Party on social networks.

During the episode of the contestation of the results of the presidential election in 2020, Elise Stefanik relays the lies about electoral fraud. On January 6, 2021, she was among the 147 Republican elected officials who refused to certify Joe Biden’s victory. When Liz Cheney, president of the Republicans, opposed this maneuver, her party ousted her and named Elise Stefanik in her place. The highest-ranking Republican in the House of Representatives, she becomes de facto number 4 in her party hierarchy.

“Border Tsar”, participation in Project 2025…: who is Tom Homan, the new head of immigration appointed by Trump

Last year, she distinguished herself by leading the charge, during hearings in the House and on social media, against the directors of prestigious universities (including Harvard, her alma mater, and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology), following the increase in anti-Semitic acts on campus. His direct question “Does calling for the genocide of the Jews violate the rules of [votre université] ?” and the convoluted responses of his interlocutors went viral on social networks. Three university deans (Harvard, Pennsylvania and Columbia) resign immediately.

Evoking this wild card, during his champion’s end-of-campaign meeting at Madison Square Garden, the “star” Stefanik cracked the Trumpist quote: “You’re fired !” (“You’re fired!”). His rise is undoubtedly not over. The post of ambassador to the United Nations is considered a stepping stone to higher positions.
