Trial of the assassination of Samuel Paty: the ex-friends of the jihadist killer deny any complicity

“Do you admit to the facts with which you are accused? » asks the president. “I dispute the facts,” replies Azim Epsirkhanov firmly. “I have been contesting them for four years,” Naïm Boudaoud would later assert. On the 2nd day of the trial for the assassination of Samuel Paty, the specially composed Assize Court notably examined the paths of the two accused tried for complicity. Two young men aged 23 and 22 who are accused of having helped the terrorist, Abdoullakh Anzorov, 18, to obtain a bladed weapon the day before the crime, Airsoft pistols and of having driven him by car near the college where the professor taught in Conflans Sainte-Honorine () on October 16, 2020 (for the second). Both have always claimed to have been completely unaware of his deadly intentions.

What is striking, in the reports of the personality investigators as in the words of these very young accused, is the extent to which they seem far removed from the radical Islamist regimentation of the future assassin. If the religious aspect is not addressed by the court as such, it is apparent from the family and school portraits painted by these reports.
