Deadly marriage proposal: she falls off a cliff while celebrating her engagement

A 39-year-old woman who had just gotten engaged to her partner died after losing her footing on a cliff top while her husband-to-be returned to the car to pick up the last items for their romantic picnic.

“We had chosen the place to have a romantic memory after the marriage proposal. We drank alcohol. It all happened suddenly. She lost her balance and fell,” her new fiancé, Nizamettin Gursu, reportedly told local media, according to The Mirror on Monday.

On July 6, Yesim Demir, 39, was celebrating her engagement with her future husband at Cape Polente in northwestern Turkey when she lost her footing, before finishing her fall about 32 meters below.

Her fiancé, who was on his way to their car to pick up the last bits for the picnic, reportedly heard only a scream before rushing to the edge of the cliff to find his wife down there.

The 30-year-old, who initially survived the shock, died during the evening, after 45 minutes of resuscitation, according to what the British media continued.

The lovebirds had chosen this particularly popular place to watch the sun go down. But according to a friend of the woman, who told local media, precautions should be taken to make the place safer.

“It’s a place where everyone comes to watch the sunset. However, the roads are very bad and there are no precautions at the edge of the cliff. A fence should be placed here, precautions should be taken,” he lamented, according to The Mirror.
