The third branch of Homers Box in Due owned on Saturday January 18, in Laval. A few days later, the queue is still so long to get the big colored donuts bearing the image of Elmo and Cookie Monster.
“I expected to have people, but not at that point!” Exclaims Terry Axiotis, founder and principal owner of Homers, the first of which was inaugurated barely 10 months ago in Montreal, in the Notre-Dame-de-Grâce district.
The biting cold of January does not prevent gourmets from making the line in front of the establishment of boulevard Saint-Martin Ouest, whose storefront is decorated with a large pink donut decorated with candies, the signing of Homers.
“What stands out is that our donuts are very good, and offered at a very good price. We make donuts with beautiful colors for children and others more “adults”, and we try to think of everything to allow people to have a good time. It’s a nice family outing, ”says Terry Axiotis.
In addition to the more traditional donuts, including icy, iced choco, maple, powdery or cinnamon sugar, Homers serves, among other things, crème brûlée, pistachio or bacon donuts.
Milks struck with original flavors and espresso, Capuccino or icy cafes are also on the menu.
An unknown item also attracts attention, the “Bignewich”. Composed of a glossy donut cut in half, the donutwich can be garnished with eggs and bacon, smoked-meat or fried chicken, cheese, bacon, and be served with or without potato quarters.
“It is certain that it’s pig!” confirms Terry Axiotis. “In the United States, they offer donuts filled with chopped beef, but I wanted to make different. “We invented that!” “Duewich”, it sounds Quebecer! Even if we went to the English -speaking territories, we would keep the word. ”
Customers can take their donut order to take away, or sit down to taste them. Games are made available to them, including arcades dating from the 70s and 80s.
-From the opening of the first branch, success was there, says Terry Axiotis.
“When I saw that after a month we still had a 100 -meter long lines, I told myself that a second branch had to be opened. We opened that of Longueuil and happened the same thing! We are now returned to Laval and next month, we open another branch in downtown Montreal, on rue Sainte-Catherine. ”
Other franchises are in the process of being signed. If everything goes as planned, one more branch should open in eastern Montreal, then in Quebec and Gatineau by May.
