This amount corresponds to a little more than half of his annual salary of 400,000 US dollars (572,815 Canadian dollars), according to Section 3 of the United States Code.
According to a law passed in 1958 by the American Congress, in addition to a lifetime pension, a president receives several benefits:
- they have security guards
- their healthcare costs are fully covered
- they can open offices wherever they want
- their expenses are covered when they take official trips
Three pensions for Biden
When leaving the White House, Joe Biden will be entitled to two other pensions, due to his mandate as vice-president alongside Barack Obama and his 36 years as a senator from Delaware in Congress.
-These three pensions will total 413,000 US dollars (approximately 591,400 Canadian dollars) per year. It is therefore more than his salary as president.
President-elect Donald Trump has received more than US$3 million in compensation of all kinds since the end of his first term in 2021.
From 2016 to 2024, former President Bill Clinton received almost US$13 million. For the same period, George W. Bush received approximately 12 million US dollars and Barack Obama 10.5 million US dollars, according to the American media The Hill.
