“Blessed Virgin! It’s a dream!” exclaims Paula, not taking her eyes off the television. On Monday, Nawaf Salam obtained the absolute majority of votes from deputies with 84 votes, against 9 for outgoing Prime Minister Najib Mikati and 35 blank votes. A few days after the election of the head of the armed forces, Joseph Aoun, to the post of President of the Republic after more than two long years of presidential vacancy, the appointment of Nawaf Salam seems almost unreal for this retiree. “It’s a 180-degree change… In one week, everything we’ve been waiting for for years has come true,” explains her husband, Tony, who enters the living room with a bottle of wine in his hands.
