An oil platform transported from Scotland to Turkey accidentally ran aground this weekend on a beach in Tunisia, Tunisian media reported.

AFP journalists saw her on Monday resting on the beach of El Haouichet, about twenty kilometers west of the coastal town of Bizerte.

The platform, whose owner has not been identified, became detached from the towboat due to bad weather, according to media reports.

A National Guard official, in charge of maritime operations, indicated that the platform had detached after the towing ropes broke, the same sources added.

The incident, which took place during the night from Saturday to Sunday, caused neither material damage nor pollution, according to the authorities. The resumption of towing towards the final destination was delayed by bad weather in Tunisia, it was specified.
