A terrible accident occurred this Saturday morning in front of the royal palace in Stockholm. A guard on duty slipped and seriously injured himself with his weapon. Rescuers found the soldier impaled in the head with his own bayonet.

The Aftonbladet newspaper reports that an accident occurred on the morning of January 11, 2025 in front of the royal palace in Stockholm. Police and an ambulance were called by a guard shortly after 10 a.m., reporting “a work accident”. When emergency services arrived on the scene, they found “the bayonet stuck in the soldier’s head and his life was in jeopardy”.

The guard was the victim of an unfortunate accident which can be explained by a lot of bad luck. “He slipped and was unlucky in this matter”explains Björn Lindul, communications manager for the Swedish army. The soldier fell and was impaled in the head by his own bayonet while on duty at the Royal Palace in Stockholm. A thick layer of snow currently covers all areas surrounding the royal palace. The royal guard is a detachment of the army which is responsible for the security of the King, the royal family and the various royal residences.

Svensk Dam magazine adds that King Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen Silvia “were informed” of the situation. “The soldier’s comrades acted very wisely and correctly and were able to help quickly”explains the army spokesperson. The injured soldier was quickly taken to the hospital, allowing his life prognosis to increase. According to the latest information, he has “had surgery and is in stable condition”. The accident is the subject of a preliminary investigation by the police for violations of the working environment and/or harm to physical integrity.
