The meeting between Charleroi and Union Saint-Gilloise went very well for the Zèbres. But at the start of the second half, a burst of smoke interrupted the match, and Sporting Charleroi lost the thread in the process.
Everything was going so well for Sporting Charleroi. Facing an unrecognizable Union Saint-Gilloise, the Zebras led 1-0 at the break, and resumed coming out of the locker room by once again putting pressure on Anthony Moris’s rectangle.
But at this moment, a fairly intense burst of smoke bombs was then triggered, in collaboration with the ultras of the German club Münster who were in the spotlight for the 20 years of the agreement between the two clubs.
Green smoke bombs, but also strong black smoke and fireworks were sent. Problem: in the first period, some smoke bombs had already pushed the referee of the match, Mr Dhondt, to interrupt the match. The procedure is then clear: return to the locker room for everyone.
Ten minutes of interruption which cooled the Carolos. Around us, we could already hear some supporters unhappy with this outburst, which came at the worst time. But in the quarter of an hour that followed, USG completely regained control of the match.
Result: at the time of writing these lines, the Union leads 1-2, and some ironic applause rose from the side stands towards T4, responsible for the fatal breakdown. It was finally Charleroi who collapsed… on the pitch.
