Discussions on a truce in the Gaza Strip are continuing at a “technical” level, Qatar, which plays the role of mediator between Israel and Hamas, said on Tuesday.
During a press conference organized this Tuesday, January 7 from his residence at Mar-a-Lago in Florida, Donald Trump promised that “all hell will break loose in the Middle East” if the Israeli hostages are not released by his inauguration on January 20. “If the hostages are not released by the time I take office, all hell will break loose in the Middle East, and that will not be good for Hamas. It really won't be good for anyone.”says Trump.
The new US president's Middle East envoy, Steve Witkoff, also said Tuesday that he hopes to have good news about Israeli hostages held by Hamas in Gaza when Trump takes the oath of office on January 20. “I really hope that between now and the inauguration, we will have good things to announce on behalf of the president”said Steve Witkoff.

“A new impetus” for the negotiations
Discussions on a truce in the Gaza Strip continue at a high level «technique»Qatar, which plays the role of mediator between Israel and Hamas, said on Tuesday. “Technical meetings continue between the two parties”said Qatar Foreign Ministry spokesperson Majed al-Ansari, referring to discussions between representatives of the main negotiators on the details of an agreement. There is no delegation of “higher level” right now, he added.
For more than a year, Qatar has been engaged alongside the United States and Egypt in negotiations for a ceasefire and the release of hostages still held in Gaza since the terrorist attack on Hamas on October 7, 2023 against Israel, which started the war. “Many subjects are under discussion”indicated the Qatari official, who said he did not want to go into details “to protect the integrity of the negotiations”.
The latest round of negotiations ended last month without success, with both sides accusing each other of blocking them. After suspending its mediation in November, the rich gas emirate said in early December that it had noted “a new impetus” for negotiations after the election of President Donald Trump in the United States.
