Drama on New Year’s morning in Esch: a man died after being stabbed by two minors, one being his son and the other his stepson. The prosecution gives more details on this sordid affair.
According to information from RTL, two minors aged 15 and 16 respectively stabbed a close relative on New Year’s morning.
The information has just been confirmed by the prosecution, which provides more details.
The police were called during the morning of January 1 to a home in Esch-sur-Alzette where a 54-year-old man was found seriously injured. Despite the rapid intervention of the emergency services, this person died shortly afterwards in hospital. An autopsy was requested by the Luxembourg public prosecutor’s office.
According to the prosecution, the first elements of the investigation allow us to conclude that “an attack committed with a knife leading to the death of the person in question. The alleged perpetrators (son, respectively stepson of the victim) are two minors. In the first phase, the minors had left the scene and were on the run.“
One of the young people, aged 16, was finally able to be located and arrested during the day of January 1 by special police units. The second, aged 15, was arrested the next day.
An investigation which is only at its beginning, recalls the prosecution
An investigating judge was contacted in order to carry out an investigation based on the offenses of “parricide, assassination, murder” continues the prosecution, which specifies that like the acts are accused of minorstheir supervision was entrusted to a youth judge.
The two young people were questioned by the Judicial Police Service, in the presence of a lawyer. A psychiatric evaluation of the 16-year-old minor was decided immediately, at the end of which the youth judge ordered a provisional custody measure for him at the Luxembourg Penitentiary Center.
Regarding the 15-year-old minor, he was placed on the basis of a provisional custody measure in the UNISEC security unit by decision of the youth judge.
The prosecution recalls that ““The investigation is at an early stage and there is still a multitude of checks to be made, so further details cannot be provided.” and that the secrecy of the investigation, the presumption of innocence and the rights of the defense must be respected.
