Among the injured, “10 people were transported to area hospitals for treatment and eight people were treated on site,” she added.
Investigators do not yet know whether the dead people were on board the plane or workers at the factory where the plane crashed, a Fullerton police lieutenant told local channel KTLA.
Local media images show a gaping hole on the roof of a factory, from which smoke is escaping.
“All we heard was a loud noise, ‘boom,’ and that was it. Then we started running” out of the factory, Jerome Cruz, one of the employees who witnessed the scene, told CBS News.
The plane involved in the crash is a Van’s Aircraft RV-10, a small model with four seats, according to the American aviation regulator (FAA), which has opened an investigation.
Another crash near the Fullerton airport had already injured two people in November.
