A US federal court on Monday rejected an appeal by Donald Trump against his order to pay $5 million (4.81 million euros) in damages to E. Jean Carroll for sexual assault.

The ruling was issued by a three-judge panel of the 2nd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in Manhattan.

Now 81 years old, E. Jean Carroll, former columnist for Elle magazine in particular, filed a complaint in November 2019 against Donald Trump five months after the latter denied having raped her in the fitting room of a Manhattan department store in the 1990s.

At the end of a civil trial in May 2023, the nine jurors in a Manhattan federal court found the US president-elect guilty of sexual assault and not rape and decided to award around $5 million in damages. and interests to the ex-journalist.

Separately, another jury sentenced Donald Trump in January to pay $83.3 million to E. Jean Carroll for defaming her and damaging her reputation in June 2019, when he first denied her rape complaint. The court also rejected Donald Trump's appeal in this case.
