The company behind the research will receive 70 million euros in the event of significant results.
Ten years after the disturbing disappearance of Malaysia Airlines Flight MH370, the Malaysian government has approved the launch of new searches to find the aircraft, the Minister of Transport declared this Friday, December 20.
“The proposal for a research operation by (the company) Ocean Infinity is solid and worth considering,” Malaysian Transport Minister Anthony Loke told journalists, reports AFP.
This research proposal was accepted on December 13. The Ocean Infinity group will be responsible for continuing research into the Boeing 777 “in an area estimated at 15,000 square kilometers in the southern Indian Ocean”, he clarified.
The exploration company, specializing in marine robotics and based in Texas and England, had already started research for the plane which ended in 2018, without success. She will receive $70 million in the event of significant results, continued Anthony Loke. “Our responsibility, our obligation and our commitment are to those close to us. We hope that this time will be positive, that the wreckage will be found and that the families will be able to turn the page.” he added.
The biggest mystery in international aviation
Flight MH370 linking Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia) to Beijing (China) disappeared from radar screens on March 8, 2014, when 239 people were on board. Ten years later, the disappearance of the Boeing 777 remains unexplained and constitutes one of the greatest mysteries in world aviation. Despite numerous searches undertaken, the plane was never found.
Among the passengers, 150 from China were on board the plane. Their relatives sought compensation from Malaysia Airlines, Boeing, aircraft engine manufacturer Rolls-Royce and insurer Allianz.
