INTERVIEW – We brought together the honorary president of the Res Publica foundation and its young director to take stock of the political situation over the last twenty years and outline perspectives for the future.
Why did you create the Res Publica Foundation in 2004? ? What goals do you pursue through it ?
Jean-Pierre CHEVÈNEMENT – The day after April 21, 2002, a campaign was launched to blame me for Lionel Jospin’s failure. The Res Publica Foundation, recognized as being of public utility, was a means of rising above these political contingencies and re-establishing oneself in the long term. This was evident from our first conference, “The United States and the Rest of the World,” which followed the invasion of Iraq by American troops in 2003.
