Turkiye Republic President Recep Tayyip Erdogan called for global unity, justice and reconstruction efforts in war-devastated Syria, citing the escalation of global conflicts and the challenges of sustaining security and stability.
“Unfortunately, faced with the multiplication of conflicts, crises and wars, the institutions responsible for guaranteeing global security and stability are not fulfilling their mission,” declared the Turkish Head of State in his speech delivered Thursday during the 11th D-8 Summit in Cairo, Egypt.
Erdogan stressed the need to strengthen international cooperation and also highlighted recent advances within the D-8 organization, including the approval of a trade pact with Egypt.
“As Egypt has also approved the preferential trade agreement, it will now be possible to implement it on a much broader scale,” he said, highlighting the potential for expanding economic ties between member countries. .
President Erdogan also stressed the importance of including less developed countries in global initiatives.
“We wish to contribute to justice and development in the world by associating less developed countries with TEKNOFEST, the world’s largest aviation and space festival,” he said, highlighting the role of this festival based in Türkiye in promoting technological progress beyond borders.
Regarding regional issues, Erdogan welcomed Azerbaijan’s membership in the D-8, saying it was an important step to strengthen the organization.
“With Azerbaijan, which has made considerable progress in recent years and joined our organization, we are stronger today than in the past,” he said.
Addressing the situation in post-Assad Syria, Erdogan called for solidarity to rebuild the country, marked by 13 years of civil war.
“The Syrian people need unity and help to rebuild their war-torn country. As neighbors and brothers, we are trying to contribute to this effort,” he explained.
The president added that the ultimate goal was peace and coexistence in Syria.
“The construction of a Syria free of terrorism, where all religious, confessional and ethnic groups live side by side in peace, is our most sincere hope,” he concluded.
