The Ivorian national gendarmerie received, this Wednesday, December 18, 2024, intelligent monitoring equipment for road offenses and three vehicles with on-board radars, as part of road safety.
The Ivorian gendarmerie is equipped with electronic tools, including mobile verbalization terminals, cameras, fixed and mobile radars, software solutions, which have been the subject of an official handover to the higher command of the national gendarmerie, in Abidjan .
They were offered by Quipux Afrique, a public service concession company, specializing in the development of technological solutions applied to road transport systems, in partnership with the Belgian company Macq Mobility.
« The intelligent monitoring of road offenses project will lead to the implementation of electronic fines tools throughout the territory » in order to reinforce « the response » in the face of road incivism, said the general director of Quipux Africa, Mr. Ibrahima Koné.
« We plan, through this first batch, to create the conditions for an amplification of this project at the national level, by setting up a system for monitoring road offenses », added Mr. Ibrahima Koné.
This device is intended to be a “ decision support tool through the exploitation of reliable statistical data, (with a view to) enabling the deployment of mobile units and modernizing road control by improving operational capabilities at the security level “, he stressed.
Ultimately, this intelligent monitoring project for road offenses should allow “ the construction of a main operations coordination center including a data center dedicated to covering secondary roads » across the country, informed Mr. Ibrahima Koné.
It will also allow the establishment of tactical support centers to control these operations in the different regions identified in Côte d’Ivoire, and to set up decentralized pounds, he said.
This initiative should, moreover, “ make it possible to set up a monitoring system for accident-prone points on so-called secondary roads not yet covered by video enforcement “, he continued.
The Belgian Ambassador to Côte d’Ivoire, Ms. Carole Van Eyll, welcomed this project which will reduce road casualties and help achieve the government’s objective of ” a 50% reduction in road casualties » by 2030.
She indicated that the Belgian company Macq, a leader in technology, has been cooperating with Quipux Africa for four years. This partnership has made it possible to implement increasingly intelligent cameras including artificial intelligence.
With electronic fines, a device for detecting offenses related to road traffic (parking, speed, blood alcohol content, overloads) using on-board computer terminals (TIE), the Ivorian State wants to improve road safety.
Coné Dioman, chief of staff, representing the Minister of Transport, declared that “ the road offense monitoring project strengthens our capacity to prevent and deter dangerous behavior, but above all it is about preserving human lives and promoting a culture of responsibility on our roads ».
He greeted “ unfailing commitment » by Mr. Ibrahima Koné in favor of improving mobility and road safety, through technological solutions adapted to the Ivorian context, with a view to transforming the transport sector.
For his part, Jean-Paul Malan, the chief of staff, representing the Minister of State, Minister of Defense, “ thanked the donors for this citizen action which strengthens the capacities of the national gendarmerie in its daily security tasks ».
