With the launch of the new Aur Congo, the DRC intends to revitalize its air sector and strengthen connectivity between its provinces.
President Félix Tshisekedi inaugurated this Tuesday at N’djili international airport, in Kinshasa, the inaugural flight of Air Congo, a new national company resulting from a strategic partnership between the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), which owns 51% share, and Ethiopian Airlines (49%).
For its launch phase, Air Congo has two Boeing 737-800s intended to serve the main Congolese cities, including Lubumbashi, Goma, Kisangani, Kolwezi, Kalemie and Mbujimayi.
Speaking at the ceremony, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Transport, Jean-Pierre Bemba, revealed the company’s ambitions. “ Air Congo will strengthen its fleet with four more Boeing 737-800s in less than a year and two more planes of this size in the next two years “, he said.
The Air Congo management team highlighted the advantages of this joint venture, including the organization of regular, secure and punctual domestic flights, the training of cabin crew, the implementation of good management practices, the improvement of airport facilities and the development of inter-province freight.
For his part, the CEO of Ethiopian Airlines reiterated his company’s commitment to this partnership, while recalling the success of similar experiences with Togo and Malawi. Similar partnerships with Togo and Malawi have yielded convincing results and contribute to the advancement of the African aeronautical industry “, he assured President Tshisekedi.
