What do we know about Luigi Mangione, an ordinary young man who became the murderer of an American CEO?

A substantial family heritage

Originally from a wealthy Baltimore family, Luigi Mangione is also the heir to a large family fortune, reports Newsweek. According to the American magazine, the young man’s grandmother left her descendants – ten children, 37 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren – a sum estimated at $30 million. Died in March 2023 from Parkinson’s disease, Mary Mangione formed with her husband Nicholas (died in 2008) a couple of investors, who also founded, among others, a company of retirement homes and assisted living residences. They were also known for their regular donations to schools, hospitals and other causes through the Mangione Family Foundation.

Luigi Mangione is therefore one of the 37 grandchildren of this couple of philanthropists. But he may well be left out of his grandparents’ inheritance, as his grandmother Mary has outlined some conditions to his estate. According to Newsweek, she left the power to the curators who manage this inheritance to exclude “any direct lineal descendant” who uses drugs or alcohol “in an abusive or addictive manner”, but also “any person who has been accused, indicted, convicted, or who has pleaded guilty to a crime.” Particular conditions, but which appear almost premonitory today.
