Syrian rebels, led by the Hayat Tahrir Al Sham (HTS) group, are advancing towards the city of Homs, after taking control of Aleppo and Hama. Damascus, their target, is about a hundred kilometers away.
The dazzling progress continues. The group of Islamist rebels trying to overthrow Bashar al-Assad’s regime is advancing towards Homs, the country’s third city. After Aleppo and Hama, they are close to the capital Damascus, while the Syrian president remains silent.
These fighters, former jihadists d’Al-Qaeda, led by the Hayat Tahrir Al Sham (HTS) group, seek Western legitimacy. “We want to build legal institutions to protect the rights of everyone in this country, not a system that only serves the interests of a single community like the regime of Bashar al-Assad”says Abou Mohammed Al-Joulani, head of Hayat Tahrir Al Sham on American television. For now, the fate of Syria will depend on Iran and Russia, which is already demanding to his nationals to leave the country.
