YouTuber Gaspard G, new Inter card to rejuvenate a public service… which he destroyed recently

Starting Monday, the videographer will decipher international news in the station's morning show. Why not, but surprising after the comments he recently made on Instagram against the public service and its “programs for old people”.

FShould we use YouTubers to attract young people? In October, France 2 went to find the YouTuber HugoDécrypte to broadcast his “face hidden interview” on its channel. Crossing the bridge in the other direction, journalist Élise Lucet opened a YouTube channel, recently boosted thanks to a video recorded with Squeezie.

France Inter is not cutting corners either: from Monday, the station announced, YouTuber Gaspard G will have a daily column in the morning, until the school holidays. Every morning, in The world according to Gaspard G, he will choose “an international news story” to tell “why, in his eyes, we must take a close interest in it”. On his channel, followed by more than a million subscribers, the 27-year-old videographer offers reports, portraits of personalities and decryptions (“The true story of Benyamin Netanyahu”, “The hidden face of the war in Ukraine”) which have hundreds of thousands of views. In May, he interviewed Emmanuel Macron on the presidential plane returning from New Caledonia. He also manages Intello, an agency for “creators of knowledge and impact”, whose clients are César Culture G and even Claire Chazal.

Media “gangrenous, fed with subsidies”

However, this will not be the first time that France Inter listeners will be able to hear this YouTuber as a columnist: he already made a brief appearance during the 2022 presidential campaign. Since then, he has gained ground (and followers), but also new responsibilities: general secretary of the Union of Influence Professions and Content Creators (UMICC) since August, he regularly defends the idea of a status for YouTubers producing information in the vast ecosystem of influencers – he was also the guest of Zoom Zoom Zen on Inter on November 20 to discuss this subject.

This is not his only hobby horse: he also regrets the absence of public subsidies for new media like his. Last month, in a story posted on his Instagram account, he was particularly virulent against the public service. “Know it, today, we are giving 4 billion euros to public television and radio to produce programs for old people, he lamented. And that infuriates me when I see that we don't have any subsidies. We have no means of going abroad to report, even though we are watched by people under 30. Today, Delphine Ernotte and Sibyle Veil, who are the two bosses of Radio France and France Télévisions, produce programs for “ieuv”. he insisted, believing that these media would “die before their spectators”. “Give us a penny [ce qui revient à] this written press, [ces] and radio media, which are corrupted, bottle-fed with subsidies, and we do magic to you! » he concluded. Would France Inter have heard his call? The YouTuber for his part finally seems to be able to put up with these old subsidized media.
