Notice to collectors of Warhammer figurines, dolls or DBZ posters in your rooms, your passion is far from being the worst. Thus, in the United States, nearly 200 decomposing bodies were stored at home by a couple, who ran a funeral home, reports ABC News. Obviously, an illegal “stock”: the deceased were supposed to be buried or cremated.
It was in October 2023 that an odor began to strongly irritate the nostrils of the residents of Penrose, Colorado, to the point that the sheriff received several reports. The smell comes from the same place: Jon and Carie Hallford's house. The investigators then discover the bodies, but also the scam around them.
191 counts of abuse of corpse
For four years, the couple made fake urns or coffins, sometimes filled with dry concrete, so as not to have to pay for the burial of the body. “Savings” which paid off big: more than 130,000 dollars, or nearly 125,000 euros, for false burials and so-called cremations. Meanwhile, the couple also committed fraud during Covid, in order to receive more than 800,000 dollars in aid, or nearly 768,000 euros.
Jon and Carie Hallford pleaded guilty to all 191 counts of abuse of a corpse, but also to two bodies that were not buried properly. They risk between fifteen and twenty years in prison.
