A 2-year-old migrant girl was arrested at the US border on Sunday, admitting she was traveling alone to reunite with her parents in the United States.
The little girl, from El Salvador, was dressed in a bright pink jacket and held a piece of yellow paper with a name and phone number on it, can be seen in a video posted on X by a department lieutenant of Texas Public Safety.
A group of 211 illegal immigrants, including 60 unaccompanied minors aged 2 to 17, were arrested after crossing the border into Maverick County, Texas.
When authorities questioned the child, she said she was going to join her mother and father, who are in the United States.
Texas Lieutenant Chris Olivarez commented on this event which, according to him, constitutes “a striking example of the precarious journey these children undertake from their country of origin and the way in which criminal organizations transport them towards the southern border and further to the interior of the land”, we can read on his publication X.
“It is unacceptable for a child to be exposed to dangerous criminal trafficking networks. […] The reality is that many children are exploited and trafficked, and are never heard from again,” he continued.
