Army reports salvo of “20 projectiles” fired from Gaza towards Israel

The Israeli army reported on Monday a salvo of “20 projectiles” fired from the south of the Gaza Strip towards Israeli territory, an attack claimed by the armed wing of the Palestinian group Islamic Jihad.

“Around 20 projectiles were identified as coming from the Khan Younes sector,” the army said in a statement. “A number of projectiles were intercepted and others fell in southern Israel.”

There were no injuries, according to the army, which said it was “targeting the source of the shots” with artillery.

The al-Quds Brigades, the armed wing of Islamic Jihad, announced in a short statement that they had “hit” in a “concentrated” manner Israeli localities around the Gaza Strip with rockets, “in response to the crimes of the Zionist enemy against our Palestinian people.”

Islamic Jihad has been fighting in the Gaza Strip alongside Hamas, against the Israeli army since October 7.

On October 7, Hamas carried out an unprecedented attack against Israel that resulted in the deaths of 1,195 people, mostly civilians, according to an AFP tally based on official Israeli data.

In response, the Israeli army launched a large-scale offensive on the Gaza Strip that has cost the lives of 37,877 Palestinians, mostly civilians, according to data from the Health Ministry of the Hamas-led Gaza government.
