A cargo plane linking Germany and Lithuania crashed this Monday, November 25 morning near the airport in Vilnius (Lithuania), killing at least one person, firefighters said.
“The plane was supposed to land at Vilnius airport and crashed a few kilometers from the airport,” Renatas Pozela, head of the fire and rescue service, told reporters, adding that one of the four members of the crew was found dead.
It was a cargo plane from the transport company DHL coming from Leipzig airport in Germany, with four people on board, according to the company.

“Municipal services are currently on site, as well as a fire truck and a command team from Vilnius Airport,” the airport said shortly before 6 a.m. on X, specifying that airport operations were not not disturbed at the moment.
According to the company DHL, which confirmed that the plane belonged to it, the aircraft made an “emergency landing”. An investigation is underway. Speaking about the still unclear circumstances in which the accident occurred, Euronews indicates that “the temperature was close to 0°C and the sky was cloudy”, and that the plane, “a 31-year-old Boeing 737” was operated by Swiftair, a company based in Madrid.
