Since his victory on November 5, Donald Trump has made a number of surprising appointments for his future government.

Linda McMahon, former head of the American wrestling federation WWE, will be the future Secretary of Education. This 76-year-old businesswoman had already served as a minister between 2017 and 2019, during the Republican’s first term. A major donor to the Republican Party, she is married to WWE heir Vince McMahon.

She will be responsible for aligning American schools with Donald Trump’s vision for education. The latter has expressed his intention to get rid of what he considers to be “left-wing indoctrination”.

Mehmet Oz, a former star surgeon on American shows, is said to be responsible for the federal health care programs Medicare and Medicaid. Aged 64, this son of Turkish immigrants, who became famous thanks to his show, the “Dr Oz Show”, even has his star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

Donald Trump also chose Howard Lutnick, a Wall Street executive, to lead the Commerce Department, which would play a key role in implementing Mr. Trump’s plans to raise and enforce tariffs.

All three have been strong supporters of Trump’s campaign in the past. The position of Treasury Secretary is still vacant.
