Seen from France, the G20 closed this Tuesday, December 19 in Rio will have mainly revolved around the standoff concerning the free trade agreement between the European Union and the Mercosur countries (Brazil, Argentina, Paraguay, Uruguay and Bolivia) . The idea of taking advantage of the trip to bring these negotiations to fruition has long been on the agenda. But at the time of publication of this article, the end of the tunnel still seems far away.
It must be said that in France, the subject is raised high by the strong return of the discontent of the farmers, a little less than a year after their massive movement of January 2024. These French farmers have started to put back in place dams , relatively light for the moment, and threatened to head towards Brussels, which put these negotiations back in the news. The arrival in the movement of the Rural Coordination union, tougher in its methods, raised the pressure to an even higher level on Tuesday.
