A man armed with a knife is holed up in his father’s restaurant in Issy-les-Moulineaux (Hauts-de-Seine), avec “three or four employees”and the police are on site, a police source said on Saturday.
The individual locked himself in this restaurant a few dozen meters from the Paris ring road, southwest of the capital, just before 1 p.m., this source also indicated.
He retains “four employees”, but there is neither “clientele nor public”said the source. A mediator from the BRI (Research and Intervention Brigade, elite unit of the Paris police) is “committed, due to the person concerned’s desire to commit suicide”.
According to initial information, the man would be around 35-40 years old and would be “drug addict and suicidal”. He is not known to the courts.
A large police force surrounds the restaurant, a pizzeria. “Intervention in progress, let the security and emergency forces work”wrote the police headquarters on “incident in progress”.
In images posted on social networks, we can see numerous police vehicles and armed and helmeted security forces blocking the streets and establishing a security perimeter in the neighborhood.
We learned around 4:30 p.m. that the four employees of the pizzeria had been released. After three hours, “the intervention is finished”, there is no “no injuries”, said a source.
The Nanterre public prosecutor’s office confirmed that it had opened an investigation into kidnapping and sequestration. “He will be subject to a psychiatric examination”, he indicated. The man was arrested and is currently being questioned.
The attacker had already “committed similar acts” at home in 2022 “with threat” of suicide.
