Ukrainian authorities launched a country-wide air alert on Wednesday, facing, according to its presidency, a Russian missile attack on its capital, kyiv.

Russian President Vladimir “Putin is launching a missile attack on kyiv,” Andriy Yermak, head of state Volodymyr Zelensky’s chief of staff, wrote on Telegram.

The Ukrainian Air Force earlier warned against the entry into the country’s airspace of a missile flying in the direction of kyiv.

Russia has been shelling civilian areas across Ukraine since the start of the offensive launched in February 2022 by Moscow.

During the night from Saturday to Sunday, Ukraine was targeted by an attack by 145 Russian drones, a “record” according to Mr. Zelensky. On Sunday morning, the Moscow region was targeted by a drone attack on an unprecedented scale since the start of the armed conflict. Thirty-four aircraft were shot down there according to Russian authorities and one person was injured.
