President-elect Donald Trump has appointed Lee Zeldin, a former Republican representative from New York, to serve as administrator of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). Lee Zeldin confirmed Monday that he had accepted this appointment, pledging to restore the “energy dominance” of the United States, revitalize the automobile industry and position the country as a world leader in artificial intelligence.

“It is an honor to join President Donald Trump's cabinet as administrator of the EPA,” he said on X, adding that the United States would preserve access to “clean air and water clean” while stimulating the economy.

Reduce environmental regulations

Close to Donald Trump, Lee Zeldin, who lost the race for governor of New York in 2022, said he wanted to reduce environmental regulations which he describes as “left-wing policies”. Interviewed by Fox News, he detailed his priorities. “From day one and for the first hundred days, we have the opportunity to roll back regulations that force businesses to struggle or relocate overseas. »

He also praised Donald Trump's economic vision. “When the president called me, he spontaneously stated clear priorities. If I had challenged him to come up with 50 more ideas to improve this agency, I'm sure he would have done it,” he emphasized. Lee Zeldin believes the EPA can help “unleash economic prosperity” while maintaining Donald Trump's emphasis on environmental conservation. “His desire to ensure access to clean air and water is a top priority,” he concluded.
