In 2022, it was estimated that 735 million people would suffer from hunger worldwide, a figure that has increased since 2014. Among the main causes:

In several regions of the world, farmers are subject to the rules of an increasingly competitive agri-food market. They see their means of subsistence reduced and struggle to feed themselves adequately on a daily basis.
Also, the numerous conflicts, including the war in Ukraine, have had global repercussions on food and the cost of raw materials. Soaring prices and supply difficulties have bogged down millions of families who were already living in food insecurity.

-Armed conflicts are responsible for more than half of the world’s acute food crises.
In the midst of war, access to vital resources such as water and food becomes increasingly scarce. The fields are pillaged, prices explode and little by little, local markets are empty.
Humanitarian aid, essential to the survival of populations, is sometimes insufficient given the scale of needs. The conflict in Sudan is an example of this. More than a year after the resumption of fighting, 18 million people suffer from hunger.
-Climate shocks
We cannot talk about hunger without mentioning climate shocks which have a direct impact on the diet of affected populations.
In the Horn of Africa, for example, long periods of drought and floods have destroyed many crops and pushed millions of people to the brink of famine.
In Burundi, recent floods destroyed 10% of the country’s crops. In total, more than 230,000 people were affected and thousands of families lost their main means of livelihood.
