LActivists will meet from 2 p.m. on Place de l’Albertine, near Brussels Central station, ahead of the 29th Conference of the Parties (COP29) in Baku (Azerbaijan).

Before departure, “three artists will give a concert and speeches will take place,” the co-founder of Rise for Climate told Belga. The procession will set off at 3:00 p.m. to reach the European Parliament. Between 500 and 1,000 people are expected.

With this umpteenth march, the citizen collective intends, among other things, to denounce the choice of the country which will host COP29 this Monday. “This choice by the United Nations (UN) harms the independence of the COPs and further promotes ‘greenwashing’ and fossil fuel lobbies,” he said.

Anticipatory measures requested

The demonstrators will also raise their voices to demand “effective anticipatory and preventive measures and solidarity aid on a European and global scale,” added Kim Lê Quang. “Disasters happen like in Valencia, Spain, and governments intervene too late,” he lamented.

Finally, the collective will mobilize against the free trade agreement between the European Union (EU) and the Mercosur countries (Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay and Uruguay). This could be completed during the G20 summit organized on November 18 and 19 in Brazil. “European MP Saskia Bricmont and a representative of the Espirito Mundo organization will take the floor to talk about it. »

Several organizations have publicly announced their support for the initiative, such as Youth for Climate, Greenpeace Belgium and Extinction Rebellion Belgium.
