Air traffic suspended, train traffic paralyzed… The city of Barcelona was at a standstill this Monday, November 5. In full red alert, torrential rains poured down on the Tarragona region and Catalonia. This situation follows the devastating floods which occurred in Valencia last week and which left at least 217 dead and many missing.
Many travelers found themselves stranded in the terminal due to the large number of flights canceled and delayed due to bad weather. In total, no less than 50 departing flights were canceled or delayed and 17 arriving flights were diverted.
Main roads cut to traffic
The city's roads have not been spared from the Dana phenomenon either. Traffic was complicated and even dangerous in certain places with the rapid rise in water levels. Several main roads were also closed due to flooding. The current crisis comes as search teams continue to comb flooded areas of Valencia, hoping to find missing people.
Filtration in buildings was quickly noted due to the heavy precipitation.
Around Barcelona, traffic has become increasingly complex.
