HASToday is a day of victory for independence. » This Thursday, this assertion was shared both by the secretary general of the independence party Junts, Jordi Turull, and by the leader of the right-wing opposition Partido Popular (PP), Alberto Núñez Feijóo. One, all smiles, jubilant; the other, angry, grumbling. With 177 votes for and 172 against, the amnesty for the Catalans involved in the independence process was definitively voted by the Spanish deputies.

After months of negotiations and twists and turns, this law – negotiated and drafted between the legal teams of the Socialist Party and Junts – has just completed its political process. Now it is time for its application by the judges and new possible complications, especially for the most important Catalan leaders, such as the former Catalan president Carles Puigdemont, exiled since the secession attempt in 2017 to avoid his imprisonment.
