Time change this weekend: how to know if we’re moving forward or backward

LThe changeover to winter time is planned for the night of Saturday to Sunday. The clocks will go back one hour from 3:00 a.m. The Belgians will gain, in this case, an hour of sleep.

How do we know if we are moving forward or backward? There are two time changes per year: the last Sunday in October and the last Sunday in March (almost April). To know which way to wind your watch, there is a simple way, in October, you turn the hands BACKWARDS. While in April, we move them forward.

In Belgium, the seasonal time change was introduced at the end of the 1970s. Summer time was then created to reduce lighting and, therefore, reduce energy consumption, but today it is today the subject of a debate.

According to critics, the energy gains would be inconclusive. The time change would also cause a disruption of our biological clock which allows us to regulate, over a 24-hour cycle, various physiological processes such as sleep.

In 2018, the European Commission proposed scrapping the time change and using the same time all year round. The results of polls among Europeans were positive. However, the project seems to have stalled. And Belgium is no more advanced.

The Belgians will return to summer time on the last Sunday of March, i.e. March 30. The clocks will then move forward one hour.
