The Israeli army released a video this Saturday showing Hamas leader Yahya Sinouar in a tunnel in the Gaza Strip. Images captured just hours before the October 7 attack

A video that is likely to get people talking. The IDF released images this Saturday showing Hamas leader Yahya Sinouar in a tunnel in the Gaza Strip just hours before the attack by the Palestinian Islamist movement against southern Israel on October 7. 2023.

He appears alongside his wife and two boys, walking through this tunnel. The leader appears to be stockpiling supplies ahead of the unprecedented attack on Israeli territory.

“You can see how Sinouar and his family escaped into an underground complex located under his house on the evening of October 6, just a few hours before the terrible massacre,” the spokesperson for the army, Rear Admiral Daniel Hagari, as reported by AFP.

“They stay alone for hours. Sinouar and his son go up and down with food, water, pillows, a plasma screen, mattresses and other things for a long stay,” he detailed.

Death from a gunshot to the head

Yahya Sinouar, considered the architect of October 7, was declared dead on Thursday by the Israeli authorities, killed the day before by soldiers following an exchange of fire in Rafah, in the south of Gaza. The autopsy revealed that he was killed by a gunshot to the head, according to the New York Times.

The army also released a video of an Israeli tank firing on a building in which, according to Admiral Hagari, the leader of the Islamist movement had taken refuge.

Since the start of the war, triggered by the attack on October 7, the leader had never appeared publicly. Hunted by the Israeli army, he was named political leader of Hamas after the death of Ismaïl Haniyeh, killed on July 31 in Tehran, an assassination attributed to Israel.

His death represents a big blow for Hamas, a pyramidal and ultra-hierarchical military organization before October 7 but decapitated and very weakened after more than a year of war.
