Tour of Guangxi 2024 – Lennert Van Eetvelt at the top on the 5th stage

Cited among the main favorites to win at the summit of Nongla, Lennert Van Eetvelt responded to the 5th stage of the Tour of Guangxi 2024 to win and take the lead in the general classification.

Lennert Van Eetvelt (23 years old) won the 5th stage of the Tour du Guangxi 2024 (2.UWT) this Saturday. At the top of I’m hungry (3.3 kilometers at 6.6%), the Belgian runner of the team Lottery Dstny won, by punch, against Oscar Onley (dsm-firmenich PostNL) after 165.8 kilometers of running. Alex Baudin (Decathlon AG2R La Mondiale) ranked 3rd. Victor Lafay (Decathlon AG2R La Mondiale), who had anticipated the debates, was caught in the last 150 meters and had to settle for 4th place in today’s stage. Strengthened by his victory, Van Eetvelt took the lead in the general classification one stage from the end of this Tour of Guangxi 2024.

Four strong men in the lead, a peloton in control

These are four riders who took the breakaway of the day on the 5th stage of the Tour du Guangxi 2024 this Saturday. Departing from Yizhou, Koen Bouwman (Visma-Lease a Bike), Stefan Bissegger, Jonas Slide (EF Education-EasyPost) and Warre Vangheluwe (Soudal Quick-Step), winner of a stage a little earlier in the week, climbed to the front and counted up to 3:30 ahead of a peloton in control until I’m hungry. A few kilometers from the foot of the final climb, the gap has been greatly reduced in the face of a peloton determined to compete for victory at the summit.

Victor Lafay anticipates, but…

At the foot of I’m hungrythis is the team Lottery Dstny which set a big pace. But the first attack came from Tim Wellens (UAE Team Emirates) which accelerated to just under 2 kilometers. He was immediately chased by Victor Lafay (Decathlon AG2R La Mondiale). The Frenchman ended up countering and going solo. But in the highest percentage, it was reviewed by the duo Oscar Onley (dsm-firmenich PostNL) et Lennert Van Eetvelt (Lotto Dstny). At the punch, the Belgian won at the top.
