Mahmoud Bassal, spokesperson for this organization dependent on the Palestinian Islamist movement Hamas, announced in a statement that a strike that occurred around 9:40 p.m. (6:40 p.m. GMT) had left “12 dead, including women and children.” in the town of Jabalia.

Before that, Ahmad al-Kahlout, director of Civil Defense for northern Gaza, reported to AFP 18 deaths in several strikes that occurred during the day in the city and the Jabalia refugee camp, which notably affected “eight schools” located in the camp, serving as shelter for displaced people.

Mr. Bassal also indicated that 14 people were missing, apparently trapped under the rubble of the last strike.

In total, the day’s strikes left at least 110 injured, according to figures transmitted by MM. Bassal and Kahlout.

The Israeli army, which did not announce any strikes on the Jabalia area during the day, also did not respond to AFP’s questions about the strikes reported by Mr. Kahlout against eight schools in the camp.

On Sunday, the Israeli army announced that it was surrounding Jabalia, a few kilometers northeast of Gaza City, ordering residents to leave the area in order to carry out an offensive against Hamas fighters by train, according to it, to rebuild “their forces” in this sector.

The area has already twice been the scene of some of the most violent fighting in the Gaza Strip since the start of the war triggered on October 7, 2023 by the Hamas attack in southern Israel from the small coastal territory. .
