On average, over the period from June to August, industrial production decreased by 0.1% compared to the previous three months.

It fell by 0.9% in July after increasing by 0.5% in May and June.

The energy sector saw its production increase in August over one month by 2.3% and consumer goods by 2.8%. On the other hand, intermediate goods fell by 2.8% and capital goods by 2.5%.

The peninsula saw its gross domestic product (GDP) increase by 0.2% in the second quarter compared to the previous one, driven by the services sector, after posting growth of 0.3% during the first three months of the year.

For the year as a whole, Giorgia Meloni’s government is still counting on an increase in GDP of 1%, while Istat has revised downwards the growth achieved at the end of June, to 0.4%, against 0.7% previously.
