“Following alerts that were recently issued in areas west of Lakish and around Gaza, a number of shots were detected coming from the northern Gaza Strip,” said a army spokesperson.

“One projectile was intercepted, the others fell in open areas,” he added.

The Al-Quds Brigades, the armed wing of Islamic Jihad, another Palestinian armed group active in the Gaza Strip, claimed responsibility for the attack, saying it launched “a barrage of rockets” on Ashkelon “and the settlements surrounding Gaza.”
