In Belgium, a video of a sheep mistreated and killed by children sparks outrage. Adults who witnessed the scene did not stop these children.
In Merelbeke, in East Flanders, several children, armed with plastic guns, had fun mistreating a sheep, leading to the death of the animal. All this, under the eyes of several adults who did not react. Recently posted online, the video caused a wave of indignation on social networks, indicates the Belgian media RTL Info.
In Belgium, the president of the animal rights organization GAIA, Michel Vandenbosch, said he would file a complaint.“This shows once again how important it is to give animals this constitutional protection. We do not let animals suffer for their own pleasure. On behalf of GAIA, we are therefore going to file a complaint, because we cannot let pass this“, did he declare.
Up to five years of imprisonment
With this complaint, GAIA hopes that those responsible will be prosecuted for their actions. “An investigating judge will first have to take stock of the whole matter: why did this happen, why did no one arrest the children? We also have to wonder what that sheep was doing in the garden“, explains Michel Vandenbosch.
Note that for these actions, adults could be sentenced to 5 years in prison as well as a fine of 100,000 euros, specifies the president of GAIA.
