Thai police announced Tuesday that they had arrested an American who was fleeing a 25-year prison sentence in the United States. Last March, Selva Delano Mudaliar was sentenced by an Oregon court to this harsh sentence, after being found guilty of eleven counts, including kidnapping and sex trafficking.

The 37-year-old had fled to Thailand while on parole and failed to appear at the court which sentenced him. He spent at least three months in this country, where he “regularly changed hotels and apartments,” Thai police said.

He was arrested on Friday in Bangkok a week after the US Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) requested help from Thai authorities. He should then be extradited to the United States.

“We believe Mr. Selva knew he was wanted by the police,” an officer from the Royal Thai Police’s Human Trafficking Prevention and Enforcement Unit told a news conference. referring to regular changes of place of residence.

Thai police also indicated that they feared that Selva Delano Mudaliar “committed sexual violence in Thailand similar to that for which he was convicted in the United States.
