Emirates bans pagers and walkie-talkies on board

The Emirates airline, the largest in the Middle East, has banned its passengers from carrying pagers and walkie-talkies, after the wave of explosions in Lebanon in mid-September of these small boxes in an attack against Hezbollah blamed to Israel.

According to an Emirates statement released on Friday, “all passengers traveling on flights to, from or via Dubai (where the company is based) are prohibited from carrying pagers and walkie-talkies in their baggage or in the cabin “.

On September 17, simultaneous explosions of pagers used by Hezbollah, a pro-Iranian Lebanese Islamist movement, left dozens dead and thousands injured in Lebanon.

Pagers and walkie-talkies allow you to receive messages and sound alerts using their own radio frequency, outside of mobile phone networks, without the risk of being listened to.

Separately, Emirates extended the suspension of its flights to Iran and Iraq until Tuesday – in force since the Iranian missile attack launched on Tuesday against Israel – and to Lebanon until October 15, while the Israeli army bombs the country.
