Three civilians, including a child, were killed and four others injured Thursday following a drone attack on a village in the Ukrainian region of Cherniguiv (north) bordering Russia, national police announced.

A drone attacked a tanker truck carrying gas for the population, which exploded, setting fire to nearby houses, police explained on Telegram. The truck driver and his colleague as well as a child born in 2018 were killed, according to the same source.

Four other people, including a four-year-old boy and a 13-year-old girl, were injured, added the region’s governor, Viatcheslav Tchaous, in a statement, denouncing “a horrible act of terrorism”.

The injured were all hospitalized, the children’s condition being serious, he said. The three children were part of the same family, the Northern command of the Ukrainian army said.

The tragedy occurred in the morning in the village of Guirsk, located very close to the border, he said.

The army, for its part, mentioned three FPV drones (“First person view” in English, or “immersion piloting”) involved in this attack. FPV drones allow their pilot to see live images of the terrain as if he were on board.

Part of the Cherniguiv region was occupied by Russia at the start of its invasion of Ukraine, launched in February 2022, before being recaptured by Ukrainian forces in April of the same year.
