Members of the Democratic leadership in the House of Representatives announced on Tuesday that their group will come to the defense of President Mike Johnson if the Republican representative of Georgia Marjorie Taylor Greene tries to hold a vote to impeach him in retaliation in particular of its support for additional military aid to Ukraine. “At this moment, after our work on national security, the time has come to turn the page on this chapter of pro-Putin Republican obstruction. We will vote to block Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene’s motion to remove the President from office. If she invokes this motion, she will be defeated,” they said in a statement.
Shortly after the release of this statement, MTG promised to move forward with its motion against Johnson, which is supported by only two of his colleagues at the moment and opposed by several other members of the Republican group, including radicals , who don’t want to relive the days of chaos that followed Kevin McCarthy’s impeachment earlier this year.
“If the Democrats want to elect him president (and if some Republicans want to support the president chosen by the Democrats), I will give them the opportunity to do so,” she wrote on votes duly recorded, because formalizing the debates of Congress allows every American to see the truth and ensures the transparency of our votes.
