In New York, the possible fall of Democratic Mayor Eric Adams, “Biden of Brooklyn”, indicted for corruption

DECRYPTION – Democrat Eric Adams, the city’s second black mayor, becomes the first to face criminal charges. He is accused of having accepted illegal donations, in particular from Turkey, in exchange for various services.

When he was elected mayor of New York in 2021, the former police officer promised to fight crime and restore law and order. Three years later, Eric Adams is caught up in a corruption scandal which risks costing him his job, but also having consequences on the presidential election.

Adams is accused of bribery, wire fraud and soliciting illegal donations from foreign sources for his election campaign, as well as receiving gifts and benefits in kind. These donations, provided over a period of ten years, largely come from Turkey, and their amount exceeds $100,000. They include free plane tickets or complimentary upgrades on flights of the Turkish national company Turkish Airlines, and stays in luxury hotels in Istanbul. Adams would have taken care not to leave a trace of these transactions or to have false invoices drawn up.
