The police intervened Monday afternoon at the Sorbonne in to evacuate activists mobilized for the Palestinian cause who had set up tents inside the university, noted an AFP journalist.

Around fifty demonstrators were taken outside the building then removed in groups, supervised by the police, a few days after a mobilization marred by tensions at Sciences Po Paris.

There were around fifty people when the police arrived running inside the courtyard. The evacuation was quite brutal with around ten people dragged to the ground, but no arrests“, testified Rémi, 20 years old, a history and geography student at the Sorbonne, who was one of the demonstrators who occupied the interior of the building.

They escorted us towards the exit and then took us back up rue Saint-Jacques in a group“, he added.

Several dozen students gathered at midday on Monday in front of the Sorbonne and inside the building, where they had set up tents, a dozen tents according to the rectorate, between 20 and 30 according to a demonstrator. A Palestinian flag was placed on the ground.

The amphitheaters were evacuated around noon“, indicated the rectorate, which decided to close the Sorbonne on Monday afternoon.

Around 150 people gathered in front of the Sorbonne, notably in the presence of LFI deputies Louis Boyard, Thomas Portes and Rodrigo Arenas.

Friday, a day of blockage and mobilization, punctuated by tensions, was held at Sciences Po Paris, in the presence of several LFI deputies.
